 Yummy, yummy so good for my tummy–just tasted caramel candies from Route 29–a must have for Christmas gifts and at home entertaining. Okay read on guys and gals…..Fit for the New Year…now here’s a novel idea that you can give nearly everyone on your gift list. *May not be appropriate for some people. It’s Olympic Gold Medalist Mitch Gaylorfd’s “Melt it Off program.” I just played the video in my office and did a quick workout along with Mitch and his crew. As a fitness enthusiast and writer who specializes in the topic, I’ve tested many programs and videos and can unabashedly attest this one would motivate even the staunchest couch potato. He’s amiable, the exercises, while at times rigorous, can be adapted for most levels and it’s pure fun. Well for me anyway it was enjoyable. Mitch employs a “G-Ball” (he sent me a 2 pounder but I used my 4 lber as I’m a bit advanced. His exercises, which really do work the entire body, are tagged:  Cardio Burn & Sculpt; Sizzlin Abs, High Calorie Melt and Melt in 10.   Included in the regimen are a suggested Melt it Off  nutritionally-balanced diet; tips like a shopping list, a diary for jotting down daily food intake and activity on which you also paste a “before” photo. The whole thing’s pretty cool.

When I mentioned I was in the market for a new hair style, my friend Katy, who knows LA’s “It” spots from beauty to hotels and beyond told me I just had to try Steve Lococo. “He’s the best” she beamed.  Since I trust Katy, I made an appointment and I wasn’t disappointed. She’s right.

Affiable, intent and creative the 22 year hairstyling veteran ranks several cuts above the rest in this town of “super stylists”. He’s interested in YOU, no attitude,  runs a gorgeous facility — two actually, but I visited the one at 648 N.Doheny Drive, WeHo, 310-777-7648. So here went my afternoon with Steve:

First he does an assessment to  decide what to do. “I want to keep it long but you can do anything you want,” I tell him. “I love a challenge”, Steve responds and after 3 hours and painstaking preps, he meets it head on, as it were.

The man is a master of his trade and I’m glad I was the recipient of his wizardy.

Lococo’s salons are no strangers to celebritie. Still Steve says he’s committed to treating everyone with the tools to look their glamorous best, with easy-care styles they can keep up at home. So he offers onthly sell-out blow-drying classes at Borrelli Beverly Hills. Well finally tried the  Kiss everlasting French nails. Happy with the results. They went on easier than expected and didn’t even need filing. Really looked professional. Only thing I don’t like is the tips are a little too white. Otherwise so far so good. It’s been two days so I’m hoping they last at least a week.

 

I also tested Dove’s visibly smooth wild rose deodorant, it’s supposed to make underarm hair less visible and give and it seems to work. Smells lovely, too, a very light scent. 

 

Speaking of body hair, I’m also using Gillett’s Venus Embrace new razors and love them. I take one to the gym, and keep one in my tub. What I like is the five curve-hugging blades that provide a smooth, close shave and the protective ribbon of moisture ShowerPod that helps the razor glide over my legs and underarms. Priced from $10 to $12.  I use them with Satin Care Lavender Kiss Shave Gel for extra smoothness. (only $2.99).

FYI: Porter Novelli, the public relations company that reps Gillette’s Venus send out an interesting fact sheet: that 110.5 million women or 91% of the US female population shaves; 102 of them use a  blade or razor, 1.5 million use a depilatory, 7 million use creams or waxes and most shave 2.75 times a week and 11 times a year.

Nice and light with just the right hold and best of all it protects from damaging UVA and UVB rays and contains Aloe Vera, Panthenol that stregthens and adds shine and botanical extracts of chamomile, Rosemary, white chestnut and nettle and pure essential oils. One of my favorite experiments was testing  Zia Natural Skincare’s Sea Tonic Rosewater & Aloe Toner, one spritz made my face feel tight and perky. It’s made with seaweed extract, rosewater, essential oils of rose and Yiang Ylang and sells for $14.95, www.zianatural.com

I’ve  have been trying out SpinBrush’s Pro Whitening Sonic battery-operated toothbrushes for the past few weeks and love how my teeth look professionally cleaned and yes, whiter. 

Pretty Feet  I  found the perfect panacea for cracked, rough feet, it’s called Heel Rescue. I started my testing a week ago and combined with my sluffing routine it turned my feet around. I am constantly amazed at how much cosmetics have improved. I mean many actually do what they claim. Like my latest discovery,  Regeneration Tight, Firm & Fill eye firming serum by  BeautiControl (www.beauticontrol.com). The miracle maker came in a gift bag sent by a friend and I just started using it a few days ago.  The tiny wrinkles around nearly disappeared. I mean I even looked in my magnified makeup mirror with my glasses on and saw a decrease in lines of about 70 percent. 

While home beauty regimens with the proper products helps keep your complextion in tip top shape, monthly trips to a facialist will improve the odds. 

 I get regular facials and decided to get my husband into the act,  so I treated him to a cleansing facial at Ole Henriksen in West Hollywood. Like most men he really needed the cleaning, and Dawn, his esthetician worked wonders especially on his nose (which is a little red and blotchy today but hopefully will go away). Of course she did more than extractions, she massaged and pumped his skin until he had a golden glow. He looked younger and healthier and loved the whole 60 minute, $115 treatment. 

Now he’s a convert. We began the session with dreamy side by side soaks in heavenly scented baths set in a gorgeous room with a wall filled with lit candles. Ahhh.

I booked a wonderul anti-gravity treatment with Maki ($115) , who also worked wonders on my complextion with a light peel, sound wave therapy (kinda like little suction cups moving around your face, feels great), lymphatic drainage,  a personalized mask and neck and shoulder massage.

We both  left looking 10 years younger–no joke.
